Counsellor

Focus:

  • Primarily supports individuals in managing and overcoming personal, emotional, or psychological issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Counseling Sessions:
    • Conduct individual or group counseling sessions.
    • Provide a safe, confidential space for clients to express feelings and concerns.
  2. Assessment and Evaluation:
    • Assess clients’ mental health, emotional state, and psychological needs.
    • Use various techniques and tools to evaluate issues and progress.
  3. Develop Treatment Plans:
    • Create personalized action plans to address specific issues, including therapeutic techniques and interventions.
  4. Crisis Intervention:
    • Provide immediate support and intervention during crises or emergencies.
    • Help clients develop coping strategies and connect them with additional resources if needed.
  5. Support and Guidance:
    • Offer support in managing stress, anxiety, depression, or other mental health issues.
    • Guide clients through decision-making processes and life changes.
  6. Confidentiality:
    • Maintain strict confidentiality of client information and adhere to ethical guidelines.
  7. Documentation:
    • Keep detailed records of counseling sessions, treatment plans, and client progress.
  8. Professional Development:
    • Stay updated on new counseling techniques and theories through continued education and training.

Advisor

Focus:

  • Typically provides guidance on academic, career, or personal development matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Academic Advising:
    • Help students understand and plan their academic path, including course selection and degree requirements.
    • Assist with academic goal setting and performance monitoring.
  2. Career Counseling:
    • Provide advice on career exploration, job search strategies, resume writing, and interview preparation.
    • Help clients identify career goals and develop plans to achieve them.
  3. Goal Setting and Planning:
    • Work with clients to set realistic personal, academic, or professional goals.
    • Develop action plans to help clients meet these goals.
  4. Resource Referral:
    • Connect clients with additional resources, such as workshops, seminars, or support services, relevant to their needs.
  5. Problem Solving:
    • Assist clients in addressing academic or career-related challenges and finding effective solutions.
  6. Monitoring Progress:
    • Track clients’ progress towards their goals and provide feedback or adjustments as needed.
  7. Guidance on Policies:
    • Educate clients about institutional policies, procedures, and requirements related to their academic or career pursuits.
  8. Record Keeping:
    • Maintain records of advising sessions, client interactions, and progress.
  9. Professional Development:
    • Stay informed about trends and changes in academic programs, career fields, and advising practices.
